Trap-Neuter-Return
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) focuses on the spay/neuter and vaccination of outdoor cats. The idea is to lower the population of feral and community cats by restricting their ability to reproduce. We also rescue and adopt out kittens and friendly cats, further lowering the population.
Feral cats are cats that are not accustomed to living with humans and do not want to interact with us. TNR focuses primarily on the spay/neuter of feral cats. We release feral cats back into their outdoor habitat. Often they have caregivers who provide food, shelter, and fresh water for them.
We use humane live traps to trap the cats, and then they go into a high-quality high-volume low-cost spay/neuter clinic to be altered. While under anesthesia, any health issues that need to be addressed also are treated.
We assess the temperament of the cat during the entirety of this process, and if deemed too feral for adoption and healthy enough for release, the cat is returned back to its home territory. If friendly enough for adoption, the cat is adopted out. If the location is not safe enough for the cat to be returned, or the cat is not healthy enough to be returned, alternative placement such as a barn home is considered.
